Broken Heart Gallimaufry
Break IV: After I Began To Love You
You found me so cynical and distrusting,
My frail hope completely tarnished and rusting.
But you soothed away my dark innermost fears,
Speaking words of kindness, not vicious jeers.
You coaxed joy of life awake in me once more;
And opened up love’s long barred and rusty door.
You allowed me to find a deep contentment;
Accepting all life’s pains without resentment.
So I could understand if our love had died
And mourn its passing with sorrow undenied.
But now I find it was a web of deceit
Woven from lies to satisfy your conceit.
You watched in savage amusement as I tried
To stop an avalanche from its downhill slide;
Knowing all the while I was doomed to defeat
When your cruel play’s final act was complete.
Betrayed from the very start,
You callously raped my heart;
Let me take my eager part
As the target for your dart.
Your dark poison courses through my veins;
And my eyes flood my face’s scarred plains
With caustic and bitter acid rains,
Which your scornful laughter so disdains.
And so now love, the once keenly longed for word,
Has become the most cruel that I have heard;
My bright dreams shown to be totally absurd,
Mere battle field spoils for the carrion bird.
You’ve warped my hopeful future with your present;
Shaped the bitter path that marks my long descent
Where I’ll join the emotionally outcast,
Always in the shadow of this painful past.
Betrayed from the very start,
You callously raped my heart;
Let me take my eager part
As the target for your dart.
Your dark poison courses through my veins;
And my eyes flood my face’s scarred plains
With caustic and bitter acid rains,
Which your scornful laughter so disdains.
