Rescue
Taken captive by a black evil villain,
You stand atop your vile, wretched prison walls
And cry to your white knight in shining armor,
Who quite selflessly heeds your despairing calls.
He rushes to rescue you from the tyrant,
The black knight who holds you in captivity.
With a hurled challenge eagerly accepted,
Your hero engages with all brevity.
The sharp ringing strokes fly fast and furious
Until the battle ends with a mighty blow;
The black knight’s head is severed from his body
As you run towards the victor, your face aglow.
Then to your well-deserved horror unalloyed
He raises his visor to reveal — a void;
While your captor’s head rolls from his black helmet
To reveal my broken face, now ghastly set.
My only crime, it seems, was I truly loved you.
I couldn’t fulfill your dreams, I could only love you.
