On Love’s Endurance
How did you love me through the passing years,
Despite mistakes I own beyond all count?
You stayed beside me through the vale of tears,
When even quaffed we from despair’s deep fount.
From hardships would you let us not retire,
But kept us going by your inner strength.
You gave e’en after giving all entire;
Where some would quit you went the extra length.
So now in these sad times of your ill health,
Let me bear you through these cursed trials and pain.
I’ll count all tears of mine as new found wealth,
And mark what aches occur as heartfelt gain.
You are my precious gift from heav’n above;
No price too great for our enduring love.
